I paint feelings. Those feelings of joy you get when watching children play in wild abandon, of wonder at the fairy dance of light playing on waves in the ocean, of intrigue at the sight of ancient structures, and of contentment felt at the memory of a well loved place. We experience life in ever-fleeting moments and it is the favorites of those moments that I capture in oils.
I am drawn to water in real life and also in my paintings. I relish painting water as it tumbles in waves onto the shore, as it twinkles in shadows of a stream or as it reflects buildings like a mirror.
I love painting old architecture, well known landmarks as well as ancient tumbling towers. There is a quiet strength they give to the landscape. They were built generations before I existed; standing like sentinels, guarding the memories of those long gone, and observing the passing parade of humanity. I am a confirmed “Italophile”. My Old World paintings are visual memoirs from time savored in Italy and France.
For me, a sunny day is a wonderful gift, full of color that sings and fascinates the eye. I am awed by sunsets and the palette that God uses to create them. There is such spontaneity for capturing their essence in a painting.
My paintings share my emotions with you, urging each viewer to be drawn into the setting and feel the moment. My most rewarding response is when a person viewing my paintings replies, “This makes me want to just BE there.” I love that.
